The strawberry one of the most delicious fruits on the pla…..wait, hold on. We’re being told that it’s not actually a fruit at all. Or a berry. It’s actually the enlarged end of the strawberry plant’s stamen, a receptacle for its flower. It’s classified as a “false fruit”. Interesting!
Where were we? Ah yes, deliciousness.
Strawberries topped with cream is one of the most classic and awesome desserts in American history. And it seems for generations, the strawberry stuck to its fruity role. But some interesting and creative techniques have found their way into the mainstream, and trust us when we say, that’s a good thing. Roasted strawberries, grilled strawberries, strawberries in red wine, strawberry slaw and many other exciting recipes are now being enjoyed and shared among strawberry lovers.
And in case you were wondering, yes, it’s also incredibly healthy. Apart from having more vitamin C than an orange (!), the strawberry is also an excellent source of fiber, potassium, antioxidants, folate and more. So it’s all the pleasure, none of the guilt. Endulge!
