Old-world is a proper term to use when talking about the premium Dietz & Watson meats that are the stars of the Marsh Deli case. Each bite tastes of heritage, care and a commitment to quality. To understand what makes the company’s products exceptional, you have to go back to the aftermath of World War I in Europe.
Like thousands upon thousands after the war, a German sausage maker named Gottlieb Dietz struggled in his country’s social and economic collapse. So he did as many did, he packed off to America to find his future. For nearly two decades, he built his savings as he worked in a meatpacking plant.
In 1939, Dietz bought a meat company, launching Dietz & Watson. During his lifetime, the business remained small, but his daughter, who succeeded him in the family business, eventually grew the company into the largest supplier of premium deli meats and cheeses in Philadelphia. Today, under the direction of Dietz’s grandson, the company is a leader in the marketplace, with a reputation for innovation and healthful meats.
