Hi I’m Mary Snell and am the Director of Nutrition and Wellness for Marsh Supermarkets. My role is to be a resource for our customers and to provide you with accurate information, tips and tools regarding health and wellness. Along with Marsh’s in-store nutrition programs and commitment to quality and freshness, our goal is to make it easier to choose healthy, nutritious foods for you and your families.
I have been a registered dietitian for over twenty five years, providing diet and nutrition education and information to individuals in a variety of settings: hospitals, wellness centers, outpatient clinics and most recently, as an instructor at Ball State University. I have seen firsthand the consequences of poor nutrition and how it affects one’s health. Each year the rates of obesity continue to climb in this country with dramatic increases seen in the rates of diabetes and high blood pressure; two conditions closely associated with obesity.
My interest in nutrition began when I was a teenager, struggling with a weight problem. I read everything I could about nutrition, started exercising and taught myself what I needed to do in order to manage my weight. I knew then that I wanted to help others in similar situations.
One of the things I learned throughout my years as a dietitian, is that people are confused as to what they should or should not be eating. Hardly a day goes by without the news reporting some food that’s been found to be bad for you. My approach to healthy eating has always been about teaching others what they CAN do, and that small steps lead to big change.
Have specific nutrition related questions? Feel free to contact me.
I look forward to seeing you and your families in our aisles and am thrilled to be your food and nutrition go-to person.
