The city of Muncie holds special significance for Marsh Supermarkets. The first-ever Marsh store was opened in Muncie 76 years ago. “I’m pleased to be able to announce today the conversion of all our eight Muncie store locations to Marsh Hometown Markets,” said Marsh Chairman, CEO and President Frank Lazaran. “Our Marsh Hometown Market format combines the best attributes of both our and Marsh storessuch as competitive pricing and promotions, coupled with the freshest produce and meats. Lazaran added that the conversions are part of a previously announced comprehensive store strategy for 2007 that focuses on continuing to build a strong platform for future growth and continued improvement. In fact, we have recently lowered the price of about 2,000 products store wide, made possible, in part, by our improved economy of scale and other internal efficiencies. Since the conversions began, 25 stores have been converted to Marsh Hometown Markets, including the eight announced today in Muncie.
In addition to the new format, the Marsh Hometown Market at 1500 W. McGalliard now features a Ball State University motif, complete with BSU photos and memorabilia. To further show its support of Ball State, Marsh is launching a “BSU Student Club” that provides students a 5-percent discount on purchases made on Saturdays.
In addition to the BSU Student Club, Marsh is launching several other special customer programs, such as the New Mom’s program and a Senior Rewards program. Customers are encouraged to drop by any of the eight Muncie store locations to get more details on these programs and to sign up.

“We are pleased today to celebrate, with our Bloomington Marsh customers and city and Indiana University dignitaries, the remodeling of our Bloomington store locations,” said Marsh Chairman, CEO and President Frank Lazaran. “This Bloomington remodeling program is part of Marsh’s continuous improvement effort based on customer research and marketplace data to guarantee Marsh customers have a superlative shopping experience.”
Representatives from Indiana University, the Mayor’s office and The Bloomington Chamber of Commerce will take part in the ribbon cuttings this morning at both the Kinser Pike Store and the West Third. Street store. The store on Kinser Pike has an I.U. motif, complete with memorabilia, photos and sports items reflecting the pride of Indiana University. The Marsh store on South Kingston Dr. has also been refreshed and reset.
Marsh’s comprehensive Bloomington store strategy includes the introduction of its two new formats, Marsh Hometown Market and Marsh The Marketplace. The store on Kinser Pike is now Marsh The Marketplace, while the store on West Third Street is a Marsh Hometown Market.
“Both formats will offer significant improvements to the facilities, added emphasis on fresh produce, meat, and seafood, to provide the level of customer service our customers have come to expect from us,” said Lazaran. “Marsh Hometown Markets will provide a combination of Marsh quality perishables and cost-saving specials and will be easy to shop compared to larger mega-stores. Marsh The Marketplace will offer a broader selection of specialty meats, natural and organic products, a wide selection of international and specialty foods and updated service departments in meat, seafood, deli and bakery.”
The O’Malia’s store at 512 College Mall Road is also being updated and will carry the “The Marketplace” banner. This means it will offer the majority of the large Marsh store’s departments and services, albeit in a smaller footprint.
