Barbecued Beefsteak Strips
Turn a less-tender cut of meat into a family favorite. After coating beef strips in mustard and flour, brown them in oil and simmer in a stir-together barbecue sauce until the steak is tender and the sauce has a rich, cooked-down quality.
- Makes 8 servings
1. In a bowl, toss beef strips with mustard. Roll in flour.
2. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium-high heat. Brown half of the beef strips; remove and set aside. Repeat with 2 tablespoons of the oil and remaining beef strips; set aside.
3. Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil to skillet; add onion and garlic and cook until tender. Stir in tomato sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, salt and pepper. Stir in water. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
4. Uncover and gently simmer for one 1 hour more or until meat is tender and sauce is thickened.
