Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes and Ham
Slicing potatoes to uniform thickness ensures fork tenderness throughout the casserole. If you like, sprinkle on shredded cheddar cheese during the last 20 minutes of baking time.
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 13×9×2-inch baking dish.
2. For sauce, in a small saucepan sauté onion and garlic in butter over medium heat until tender. Whisk in flour, salt and pepper. Add milk; cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
3. Thinly slice potatoes. Place half the potatoes in prepared baking dish. Top with half the cubed ham and sauce. Repeat layering with potatoes, ham and sauce.
4. Bake, covered, for 40 minutes. Uncover and continue to bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until potatoes are tender and golden.
