Favorite Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Crispy edges and chewy middles make these the ultimate chocolate chip cookie. The addition of tasty oats makes them extra wholesome.

1. Preheat oven to 350˚F.  In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

2. In a large bowl, beat butter, shortening, brown sugar and granulated sugar with electric mixer until combined. Beat in eggs and vanilla.

3. Beat flour mixture into butter mixture. Stir in oats, chocolate pieces and, if desired, chopped nuts.

4. Drop by rounded tablespoons 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are golden brown and centers are still slightly moist. Cool on cookie sheet 2 minutes. Transfer to wire rack; cool completely.

Quick Tip: Toast pecans in an ungreased baking pan in a 350˚F oven for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring after 3 minutes and each minute thereafter until aromatic and slightly dark.
