Maple-Bacon Baked Beans

There’s no better complement to barbecue than a flavorful side of beans studded with crispy bacon. For this modern take, doctor canned beans with a glistening maple barbecue sauce plus a hint of heat. Baking them uncovered infuses flavors and yields a thick, rich sauce.

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon from skillet; reserve 2 tablespoons drippings in skillet. Add onion and pepper to skillet. Cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in baked beans, black beans, barbecue sauce, maple syrup, mustard and Sriracha sauce.
  4. Transfer bean mixture to a 2-quart casserole dish. Cut bacon into chunks; arrange on top of beans. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour or until sauce is bubbly and thickened.
