Molasses Baked Beans

This modern take on Boston baked beans has the same wonderful old-fashioned flavor but cooks more quickly. Serve it alongside grilled sausages or other casual fare.

1. In a medium skillet, cook onion in hot oil until tender. Set aside.

2. In a large saucepan, combine molasses, brown sugar, tomato paste, maple syrup, vinegar, mustard, garlic powder and onion powder. Stir in navy beans and coat with sauce. Stir in bacon, cooked onion and water.

3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring as needed. Cover and reduce heat to low. Let simmer for 1 hour. Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper.
